2015 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 2,700 times in 2015. If it were a cable car, it would take about 45 trips to carry that many people.

Holiday Season

We hope everyone out there had a great Thanksgiving!  We spent ours with our fellow liveaboards at a Potluck Thanksgiving lunch.  Brad deep-fried two turkeys, and Bruce smoked another turkey.  Jennifer prepared the most delicious ham and everyone brought along their favorite sides and pies.  I have never seen so much food!  It was a great afternoon!

Following on from that, we embarked on “Operation Fit into Kilt and evening gown”.  The TMCA Commodore’s Ball was to be held on Saturday, December 19th, which gave us about three weeks for this monumental task.  Moray decided to go for a fast track diet and cleanse program which offered the possibility of losing 10lbs in two weeks.  Always the skeptic, I agreed to join him anyway.  The first week was miserable – while we weren’t hungry at all, we weren’t very imaginative in using the limited options.  However, losing approximately 6lbs each by the end of the first week inspired me to try being a little more creative.  That week, we had vegetable curries, spicy soups, even fish and chips!  Butternut squash, cut into fries, sprinkled with chilli powder and baked in the oven, is delicious!  Bottom line – at the end of three weeks, Moray lost 12lbs and I lost almost 11 lbs.  We fit into the aforementioned kilt and evening gown, but most important, we feel great!

The Commodore’s Ball was a wonderful evening – 170 guests attended, and 100s of gift boxes were donated to those merchant seamen and women who will be in the Port of Houston over Christmas, apart from their families.  This is a great tradition of the TMCA and long may it continue!  There were beautiful ladies in gowns, handsome formally dressed men, great music to dance to and lots of laughter.  What a lovely memory we will have of TMCA when we leave next year!

Now the inevitable news when it comes to preparing to set off on a cruise – there have been some hiccups, so it looks as though our leaving date will have to be postponed until the middle of April.  It’s disappointing, but there are some upsides to that so I won’t dwell on it.

So now, it’s full steam ahead for Christmas.  Santa showed up early with lots of wrapped gifts, so along with the decorations, Sol Purpose is looking very festive!

Have a very Merry Christmas, everyone!
